Sauze d’Oulx (or simply Sauze to locals) is located in the upper Susa Valley on the slopes of Mont Genevris and perfect for Extreme Sports Holidays. Here you can ski or snowboard in a panoramic hollow with fairytale woods at the base of 400 km of slopes of the Via Lattea ski area.
Sauze d’Oulx is an Entreme Sports ski area within the Via Lattea ski area and is the resort in Via Lattea that is the closest to the Turin. It is easily accessed byskiers and snowboaders via the Torino – Bardonecchia motorway and railway lines (from the train at Oulx station it is a short 20 minute, 4km bus journey – just buy your ticket from the train station ticket office or the bar at Oulx train station). This allows it to be reached in a short time both from both Milan and Turin (only 80 km away).
Sauze d’Oulx lies on a terrace sheltered from the winds and with the best exposure to the sun. In Sauze d’Oulx alone there are 8 chairlifts and 4 drag lifts that serve mainly slopes for alpine skiing of medium difficulty (34 red, 6 black, 17 blue). The Grand Piste, a beautiful red that joins other slopes at altitude allows you to descend from Monte Fraiteve to Jovenceaux with about 9 km of descent. Mountainside and well-deserving of a mention is the Rocce Nere Bar & Restaurant, renowned for its great food and various Vegetarian-Friendly and Gluten-Free options.
For children, in the Sportina area, there is a kids snow park, a snowfield with a rolling conveyor for the ascent and inflatable tubes and bouncy castles.
Sauze d’Oulx is famous for its large number of British residents and tourists and offers fine pubs, bars and lively apres-ski along with two clubs which complete this beautiful village in the Upper Val di Susa. A must visit apres-ski venue is The Derby Bar, renowned in the valley for “Crazy Franky’s” mad apres-parties and his infuriating “nail hammering game”, amongst a menu of fine energy foods, copious liquid refreshment and fantastic British hospitality – be warned; it’s not just nails getting hammered in here, yet it is a “must-visit venue” for your holiday!
Other towns within the Vialattea ski area include Sestriere, Sansicario, Claviere, Cesana Torinese, Pragelato and the French ski resort of Montgenèvre. Skiing and snowboarding in Via Lattea are easy as one ski pass serves them all.
