Courmayeur is a beautiful little village based at the foot of the Italian side of Europes highest mountain, Mont Blanc, or Monte Bianco as it’s called in Italian. It is accessed by flights in Turin airport and NeveFest can help with transfers and/or public transport direction using our Travel Consultancy Service offered with all our ski and snowboard package holidays.
Courmayeur is at the north end of Val d’Aosta, the valley leading north from Turin towards the Italian borders with France and Switzerland. The resort is just a stone’s throw from Chamonix in France, through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Courmayeur being in such close proximity to Mont Blanc will always have a big snowsports and climbing fan club. For this reason and its popularity and Italian fashion, it is slightly higher priced than most Italian ski resorts.
Courmayeur is a top-notch resort with very fashionable hotels and restaurants. As well as being extremely popular with the European skier, Courmayeur has a very affluent Italian tourist market and attracts many from Turin and Milan, especially at the weekends. Courmayeur is a reasonably high resort (1224m to 2755m) and has a reasonably good ski area with 41kms of pistes that are famous for photographing posing Euro Carving snowboarders.
Everything about Courmayeur is chic and Italian fashion. Other attractions bring people to the resort include some challenging off-piste skiing, top-notch Italian hotels and restaurants and some lively apres ski and nightlife. Being on the Italian side of Mont Blanc it offers way more sun than Chamonix, which does affect the snow conditions, especially in late season.
Just outside Courmayeur at Entrèves is the famous three-stage cable car, the “Skyway Monte Bianco” This ascends all the way to Punta Helbronner which is the closest point to the summit of Mont Blanc accessible by public transport. It has 360-degree rotating glass cabins and at the top, at 3,466m in altitude, there is a circular terrace which gives some of the best panoramic views the Alps has to offer, as well as access to some great off-piste ski routes.
